The Town of Essex is pleased to announce that the Harrow Streetscape Project was selected for the My Main Street Community Activator program and has received $250,000 to increase business development, investment, and job creation in downtown Harrow through local streetscape improvements.
Through the Government of Canada’s My Main Street Community Activator, administered by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), the Town of Essex will enjoy a more vibrant neighbourhood setting that will draw visitors and increase foot traffic to shops, restaurants and exciting new public spaces. The Town of Essex is supported by My Main Street—a two-year, $23.25-million investment by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), delivered by CUI and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario(EDCO).
The streetscape improvements in Harrow have revitalized the downtown area to create a more welcoming environment to work, shop and live. The project contributes to the economic development of the Town of Essex by increasing traffic, which in turn, increases business development and encourages investment in commercial properties. The enhanced commercial environment encourages visitors to extend their stay and explore areas of the community that have been underutilized for their significant tourism potential.
Funding from the My Main Street Community Activator program contributed to many beautification features including bike racks, benches, waste/recycling receptacles, light fixtures, banners and landscaping.
The Town of Essex would like to thank the Government of Canada’s My Main Street Community Activator program for its contributions to enhance the community and provide a unique and prosperous environment for business development.
