The Town of Essex is requesting that all owners of a residential or commercial security alarm register their system with the Town. As per By-law 2029, police response to a false alarm in the Town of Essex could result in a $180 penalty fee for the owner. With the continued growth of residential and commercial security alarm systems, police services are faced with responding to a growing number of false alarms. The false dispatches associated with the responses lead to an increased demand on the police service.
All registered owners will NOT be charged for the first two (2) false alarm responses from the OPP within the calendar year. Non-registered premises are subject to a $180 penalty fee for all false alarms beginning January 2022.
